Stars in doubt ahead of NRL grand final

Melbourne Storm v Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium, 7:20pm (AEST)

Storm early mail: Billy Slater faces an uphill battle to avoid his shoulder charge one-game suspension, and Jahrome Hughes will slot in if the retiring champion is found guilty. First choice halves Cameron Munster and Brodie Croft both skipped training on Monday over “soreness” but neither are believed to be in any doubt. Tim Glasby believes he will overcome his rib injury in time, and Ryan Hoffman will most likely be denied a fairytale appearance in the GF.

Predicted Storm team: 1. Billy Slater 2. Suliasi Vunivalu 3. Will Chambers 4. Curtis Scott 5. Josh Addo-Carr 6. Cameron Munster 7. Brodie Croft 8. Jesse Bromwich 9. Cameron Smith 10. Tim Glasby 11. Felise Kaufusi 12. Joe Stimson 13. Dale Finucane 14. Kenny Bromwich 15. Christian Welch 16. Nelson Asofa-Solomona 17. Brandon Smith

Roosters early mail: Phil Rothfield said on Monday on NRL 360 that he’d been told Cooper Cronk was only a five per cent chance of playing. That was after Cronk had earlier told media he was a “long shot” of turning out for the Tricolours. He’ll of course be given until the eleventh hour to make a decision, and Ryan Matterson will be training at halfback through the week.
