Balmain great Benny Elias lashes out at Ivan Cleary situation

Balmain legend Benny Elias has lashed out at current Wests Tigers coach Ivan Cleary for his lack of commitment to the club. After reports surfaced on Thursday surrounding Ivan Cleary’s move to the Penrith Panthers from 2021 is all but confirmed, it has since emerged the deal could be fast-forward to 2019. The uncertainty surrounding the Balmain based club has rubbed a nerve with the Tigers great, and he certainly didn’t hold back. “I’m shattered. We’re the laughing stock at the moment,” Elias said. “I don’t want a coach at the moment that says ‘I’ll live out my two years as coach’,” Elias said.
“I want a coach who says ‘I want to be here for five years and build a dynasty’.” “Cleary came to the club to build a dynasty and after one year he is gone and he got rid of three of our great junior players in Moses, Woods and Tedesco. “That’s the embarrassing part. We want a club where players want to come to our club and play for the black and gold and be part of our organisation. “We’ve got to build a dynasty and it has got to start somewhere and we thought we were going to have that with Ivan Cleary. “With a three-year contract we thought Cleary could get in there and make a real difference and unfortunately after one year he seems to be looking for other options.”
