Munster extending his stay at the Storm for another five years is a massive coup for the club. The 24-year-old Queenslander has agreed to terms with club officials, putting an end to the prospect of the Australian five-eighth
being on the market for other clubs to swoop. Munster was off contract in 2019 and was in the sights of several NRL rival teams. The talented playmaker's re-signing will help the Storm as they make the transition into the post-Billy Slater era, a year after Cooper Cronk switched to the Roosters. Now the Storm faithful will be waiting on skipper Cameron Smith to complete the good news for 2019 and announce that he will be staying for at least another season. Club officials are hopeful of sealing that deal soon.

Cameron Munster goes from zero to hero at Storm awards night

Mal Meninga insists Cameron Munster is a changed man despite the Melbourne playmaker's NRL grand final fine for kicking an opponent's head. Meninga will welcome back Munster to the Kangaroos fold for this month's Tests against New Zealand and Tonga after the Storm pivot escaped suspension and copped a $1400 fine for his season decider "brain explosion". The last time Munster was in the Kangaroos camp Meninga sent him home from the 2017 World Cup campaign to receive some home truths from Storm coach Craig Bellamy after a training dust up with teammate Ben Hunt. But Kangaroos coach Meninga said he had no problem with Munster's green and gold return despite the Melbourne star's "little outburst" in the NRL grand final loss to Sydney Roosters.

On Wednesday night, three days after the grand final, Munster was named Storm's player of the year. He edged out Dale Finucane by five votes, while Cameron Smith was third. Switching from his preferred fullback role, Munster has thrived in the role of Melbourne's chief playmaker in 2018 and produced a career-high 15 try assists.
