Daly Cherry-Evans is Manly’s resident million dollar man

It was announced by the club as a “lifetime deal”. Indeed it is.After backflipping on a $4.4 million deal to join the Gold Coast, Cherry-Evans signed a contract with Manly which holds the record for the longest deal in NRL history.“As long as Daly is playing NRL football, he will be wearing the maroon and white of the Sea Eagles,” Manly chief executive Joe Kelly said at the landmark announcement.“Daly will finish his career a one-club player.”Technically under NRL rules no player can actually be signed for a lifetime, with all contracts registered by the governing body requiring fixed terms.But after signing in 2015 on
an average of $1.25 million per season, Cherry-Evans is tied to Manly until the end of 2023.And the Sea Eagles are committed to liable for the full amount of his deal even if he retires due to chronic injury.Last season was the first year of the contract which made the 27-year-old the highest-paid player in the game.What makes things even more interesting is that his salary could soon increase. It’s believed his deal has a percentage clause tied in with the NRL’s salary cap — meaning when the cap rises, so too does his pay packet.

Hasler re-signs Paseka, Fonua-Blake

With Trent Barrett on "gardening leave", Manly coach Des Hasler has gone to work and announced the first re-signings under his second tenure at the NRL club - giant forwards Taniela Paseka and Addin Fonua-Blake. Hasler has ensured he will boast one of the NRL's biggest packs for his second crack with the Sea Eagles reins after Paseke and Fonua-Blake inked new long term deals.

Hasler has begun to roll up his sleeves at Manly after being hired to take over at the NRL club following Barrett's decision to hand in his resignation, giving 12 months' notice back in July. Barrett is currently being paid to stay away from Manly training but has been linked to the vacant Cronulla job. The awkward situation has not stopped Hasler getting down to business, showing faith in Fonua-Blake and Paseke who chime into a pack also boasting fellow 110kg-plus wrecking balls Marty Taupau, Lloyd Perrett and Toafofoa Sipley.

Dylan Walker charged with bashing his Miss Universe fiancée

Manly NRL star Dylan Walker has been stood down from training after being charged with assault following an alleged domestic violence incident involving his partner on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The woman, 24, suffered minor cuts to her shoulder, leg and feet at a home in Dee Why, on Thursday afternoon and was treated by paramedics at the scene.
Walker, also 24, was later arrested and charged with common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The Sea Eagles centre was driven away from Manly Police Station by coach Des Hasler after being granted bail to appear at Manly Local Court on Tuesday.

Des Hasler returns to Sea Eagles as coach

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are pleased to announce the appointment of Des Hasler as Head Coach for the next three years. A premiership winning player and coach with the Sea Eagles, Hasler returns ‘home’ to a club he coached to two NRL premierships and three grand finals from 2004-11. After taking Manly to the finals from 2005-2007, Hasler delivered the Club’s seventh premiership title in 2008, a record-breaking 40-0 victory over the Melbourne Storm. In 2009, Hasler coached Manly to a World Club Challenge victory before leading the Sea Eagles to the finals later that season. He backed it up with another finals series in 2010.

The Sea Eagles then won their eighth premiership title in 2011 under Hasler with a 24-10 victory over the New Zealand Warriors. Hasler was named the Rugby League International Federation Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2011. As a Sea Eagles player, Hasler played 257 games over 12 seasons for Manly, winning premierships in 1987 and 1996. Sea Eagles Chairman Scott Penn welcomed Hasler back to Manly.

A twist has emerged in the Sea Eagles' coaching search

Des Hasler has thrashed out details of a stunning return to Manly on Monday but a twist in the Sea Eagles’ search for a new coach has emerged. Hasler met with his manager George Mimis on Monday after Manly chairman Scott Penn confirmed the club’s former premiership-winning coach is a contender for the vacancy. “I haven’t signed any deal,” Hasler said. “I’ve just arrived back from overseas and obviously I have the desire, I’d like to coach in the NRL again.

“And that’s the chance this offers me. Basically it was just a matter of being briefed and catching up about the possibility of coaching at Manly again.” While 7 News Sydney’s Liam Cox reports Mimis is finalising a deal with Manly chief executive Lyall Gorman, 7 News Brisbane’s Chris Garry has revealed a spanner in the works. Broncos assistant Jason Demetriou has been put forward by Wayne Bennett as the man to replace him in the hot seat at Brisbane after next season.However, Garry reports that Demetriou is still in the running for the Sea Eagles’ gig after multiple interviews. The 42-year-old former player will be interviewed by Brisbane to replace Bennett, who was told last month that he would not receive an extension to coach beyond 2019. But Demetriou would find it difficult to turn down a formal offer from Manly this month.
