LUKE Keary has taken out the 2018 Clive Churchill Medal after playing a starring role for the Sydney Roosters in their 21-6 win over Melbourne in the grand final. With his halves partner Cooper Cronk virtually a passenger due to a broken scapula, Keary became the hero for the Tricolours. The 26-year-old, who previously won a title with South Sydney in 2014, controlled the Roosters’ attack all night, floating across both sides of the field while also doing a majority of the kicking. He set up his team’s first try with a beautiful cut-out pass
to Daniel Tupou, and later put the result beyond doubt with a 69th minute field goal. While he threw the intercept pass for the Storm’s only try to Josh Addo-Carr, he more than made up for the error.“To our boys, we did it. It’s been an awesome year,” Keary said after accepting the medal.“The medal, everyone’s got a little bit of it, all 30 of us. All the support staff, I can’t think you enough.“Let’s party.”Cronk paid tribute to his halves partner.“Luke Keary was outstanding tonight,” he said.“Everything was set up for him to have the game of his life and he delivered.”
